i/o port?
I have an Epson scanner that I have always had a little trouble with.
The Epson tech. support want to know it's i/o port. Where do I find this data? I can locate the irq, and i/o range....but where is the port listed?? |

hi Cricket,
no, they want to know the i/o port of my sound card and the scsi adapter that the scanner is attached to... went into system properties but could only find irq.... never heard of a pci card having an i/o address... |

I/O Range (Input/Output Range) should be listed on the Resources Tab for the property sheet for your device (Sound card and SCSI adapter) in the Device Manager.
I/O Ports - are ports that can be used by software to talk to hardware directly without using interrupts and the BIOS. There are 65 thousand ports, but each hardware device may use as many as 20-40, i.e. a range. Some are input only, some are output only and some are input/output depending on hardware. No two devices may share one port, so ranges must not overlap. Last edited by pillainp; 03-11-2003 at 03:14 AM. |

It's the range of ports that the particular piece of hardware uses.
You might try running AIDA32 or Sandra. Those tools will tell you what ports your hardware is using: www.sisoftware.co.uk for Sandra http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php for AIDA 32 Both are free, and are excellent system report tools. |
