I agree w2000 is not geared towards gaming, more a work atmosphere.
I`m not familiar with the games you mentioned but are you able to skip through the intro scenes. I had a similar problem with Jane`s Combat Flight Simulator. I found that if I hit enter or clicked the mouse when the vid intros came up I was able to get to the main screen quicker and the program loaded. After that everything goes smooth. |

Yes, and it doesn't work
They are both Strategy games, yes you can skip the intros but it does not help, the computer still freezes

I have also had the RAM changed and this still had no affect.
I have tried Reinstalling windows 2000 thinking it might have been a corrupt file. I have also discovered while re-installing the Software, that it mentioned something about the Sound Card, and so was not tested on with microsoft something? I will find out exactly what it said when I get home! |

Some thoughts you might try.
Check your temps after the computer locks up. [When you restart enter the bios and you can check the temp there. It should be under something like pc health or feqs and voltages.] If it is over say 65C, you have found the problem. Have you upgraded to sp3? It seems to have fixed quite a few problems. I see you are using an AMD chip with win2k, have you installed the registry fix for AMD / win2k? Here is a link to the MSKB article http://support.microsoft.com/default...EN-US;Q270715& I use a script to do this; if you want it let me know and I can e mail it to you; it’s very small 335 bytes. Make sure that your drivers are all up to date. By the way I use win2k for gaming [along with everything else] and have never had a problem. |
