Choice of which hd to boot from (2000pro)
I have one PC and two hard drives. Each hd has Win2000 pro installed. One hd is for business, the other for pleasure. At present I have a removable rack installed and install the hd I want to use then boot up. I would like to install both hd's in the PC and have the option to boot from either.
Can it be done ? How is it done? Regards Bugnut.

I don't know if writing a boot.ini file would work in this case or not.

If both installs were done with only one disk in the system then both OSes would think they were installed on the C drive. To then put both disks together permanently and attempt to dual boot would almost certainly create problems as the second disk would now be drive D.
Why use 2 installs. If it is different hardware setups then you can do this with Hardware Profiles. If it is different software installs then I think you will have to backup all your data from one disk to the other and reinstall onto the second drive. You will not have a problem booting the machine with both disks installed together. Other than that the RomTec option looks ok. Last edited by pointd; 03-12-2003 at 03:25 PM. |
