MSDOS Minimum Sytem Requirements

I currently have a machine that is running MSDOS 2.2 but when I boot into DOS, for some reason every command that I give results in bad command or filename. So what I want to do is fdisk and install MSDOS 5.0. So my question is, will MSDOS 5.0 run on a 286 with a 12.5mhz CPU and 7mb ram?

I found this info at
http://www.windowsreinstall.com/indexmsdos.htm

System Requirements
512K of memory
2.8mb of free hard drive space

so it looks like a yes. I have a actual copy at home that I can do a physical check on should you need...PM me if so

The Bad Command or File Name is most like due to a PATH being incorrect.

At the DOS prompt, enter PATH to see what it is set to.

All the DOS commands are generally in the c:\DOS directory???

If so, CD to that directory and then try your commands

DOS 5.x or 6.xx will run on any AT/286/386 with 512k of RAM, and almost no hard drive. You can actually do a partial install, with only the commands you want, however a full install of DOS 6.22 will need 3 meg of HD space (slightly more than DOS 5).
