Operating Systems
Do operating systems have to be installed on the first hard drive or can you install one on the second?

You mean the slave drive?
Win9x won't let you install it in anywhere else but C. As for 2k/XP you can install them onto any partition you want, but I see no point in installing the OS in any other partition that is not C. Unless you want a dual boot configuration.

The active partition is always C, and the first partition you make is C. So if you have no OS, and you install an OS, it will install it to C automaticly. D is left for extended partitions, aswell as primary partitions used for installing other OS's to make it dual boot.
