Do you need a server to effectivly use NT?

There's NT 3.51 followed by NT 4.0 Server & also workstation software as well.

If you would like to set up a domain, then you would probably need the NT Server. Usually they use NT Workstation as clients.

So the answer is , you do not need a server to use NT.

The newer NT system after NT 4 are Windows 2000 Server, though Windows 2003 Server is coming out soon. For workstations, the version include Windows 2000 Professional followed by Windows XP Professional. There's a Home edition for the Windows XP Professional.
