NTLDR is missing, press any key
My dad's win XP machine is acting up...I use 2000 so I'm unfamiliar with XP.
He reportedly had not installed anything new or made any changes, but went to boot up and before the Windows screen, he gets a black screen with white writing saying: NTLDR is missing, press any key... When he presses something, it just goes to a black screen and does nothing. Any help is much appreciated |

NTLDR is short for NT loader. Try booting into your start up disk, then at the "a:\" prompt type in "sys c:" and then "enter". A "System Transferred" prompt should appear. Then reboot without the start up disk. Im not sure if that would work but I hope it does.

By start up disk you mean the floppy that came with his system?

I think you would be better booting up from the XP CD-Rom and choosing the Repair option. Choose Fast instead of Manual.
