I had a problem with my PC freezing while using my ATI tuner card and surfing. I downloaded and installed recommended update 327979 which appeared to fix problem.
I did a repair couple days ago and freeze problem has returned. Windows update site states that "if you restore or have installed or unistalled programs some updates may no longer be installed on your computer." I suspect that is my case but as it shows in the installed list it won't let me redownload and reinstall the update. Is there a way to download and install a previously installed update> Chas

Open Explorer, browse to the c:\windows folder, and delete all folders that have a $ as the first character.
Just under that, is the "WUTEMP" folder, delete it completely. Restart, and you should be able to get all the updates again. |

Thanks for reply Jim. I found the update in the folders with $ sign and uninstalled it. I do not have a folder called WUTEMP. I did a search for it also with negative results.
MS update page now shows that 327979 is available for update but it fails to install when I select it. Goes thru download process but fails during install process. Update. Nevermind. I rebooted and update downloaded and installed. Got TV tuner running again and we'll see if it will run again without freezing up. Chas Last edited by Confused; 03-19-2003 at 06:44 AM. |
