Windows Protection Error after Mcafee

installation of antivirus software and firewall.

I loaded McAfee antivirus and firewall bundled together last night on my computer running Win98. Everything seemed fine, and it scanned my HDs without finding any virii. The firewall (I'm on dial-up) was monitoring packets in and out. Fine. I went browsing, and then all of a sudden- bam! Locked up, and then gave me a windows protection error (blue screen) that I have yet to re-create. I can boot into safe mode, and I am still running Scan Disksince last night. I've got a 40 Gig HD and after 7 hours it is still only half done. It is awfully sluggish.

Since I can boot into safe mode successfully, is there something I should be doing other than Scan Disk? Should I let Scan Disk complete? If McAfee is the problem, should I reinstall? I'm at a loss!

I agree with newme! McAfee has a lot of known issues with a lot of different software. I've never had luck with it and removed it each time...
