Association
My comp associates a file with a certain program to open it how do I change this. (I accidently associated it with the file by telling the pc to open it with _ program).

Open the Windows Explorer. Select the file you want the association changed. Hold down the Shift key and right click on it. Select "Open with...". A dialog box will appear where you can select the program you want to open the file with from a list. At the bottom of the list there is a checkbox saying: "Always use this program to open this kind of file" or something like dat (my Windows is in spanish so I can't tell you literally). Check that box and hit OK.
That's it. HTH

what is the windows explorer. I tried going into my computer to where the file is and if I just right click it I don't have the option of open with and if I shift-right click it it is like right clicking when there is nothing underneath the pointer I get options to adjust the folder its in settings.

That method doesn't allways "stick." If you have problems with it not sticking, open WE, open Folder Options, click on File Types tab, find the wrong program for the file type, and then click on Edit. In Edit, you then can select the program you want to open the file with.
