If the XP disk will not boot, this has been a problem, go to www.bootdisk.com and download the XP custom install disk.
This disk fits on one floppy and allows you to copy all the file to the hard disk and run the install from there. Installing Windows XP Professional with the XP Bootdisk 1. Make sure that the computer is set to boot from the Floppy drive. 2. Insert the Windows XP Bootdisk in the Floppy Drive and start the computer. 3. FDISK and Format the Hard drive in the normal way. If you are using more than one partition, you only need to format the “C” partition. 4. When you have complete Step 4 and are back to the A:\ Prompt. Insert the XP CD and change to the CD-ROM drive by typing A:\ R: and hit Enter. 5. When you have the R:\ Prompt, Type R:\CD\i386 and hit Enter. 6. Next type in winnt.exe. The command line will look like R:\i386\winnt.exe and hit Enter. (NOTE: You may have to repeat steps 5 and 6 a couple of times) 7. On the next screen, using the “Backspace” key erase the i386 so that it look like R:\ and hit Enter. 8. The Windows XP disk will now be copied to a Temp folder on the “C” drive. This will take about 1 hour. During this time you will be notified that certain files could not be copied. When you see this hit the “ESC” key to continue, when the Operating system is installed these files will be copied. 9. When the copy portion is finished you will be notified to remove the Floppy diskette and restart the computer by hitting Enter. LEAVE THE XP CD IN THE CD DRIVE! 10. Windows will now start the normal install program. During this install, if Windows cannot find a file, in the box that will appear point it to the CD-ROM drive. |
