Boom invalid page faults after 98se install

hey, i just installed win98se on my computer. i had win98 on it before. i haven't been able to use any programs since; i get an "invalid page fault" (in an unknown module) message every time i try to open one. i've done the clean boot thing (and ran in safe-mode) and the errors never stopped coming up. i've been researching my problem online and haven't found anything that's worked (or anyone who has quite the same problem with all programs). someone help me, pleeeeease! -Reuben

Hello and welcome to the PCMECH forums Akr44!

Update the drivers on all of your PCI cards.

How many programs are you running in the background? Since you are able to run fine in Safe Mode, it sounds like it's a software problem.
BUT it could be a hardware problem, as Safe mode only runs a limited number of drivers. So if Safe Mode turned off that driver, then it's mostly that driver that caused those invalid page faults.
You will need to either update all of your drivers, or take all of your PCi cards out, and put 1 in at a time and see if the problem occurs.

i tried to post this last night, but it wouldn't let me

apparently, it's not all of my programs (it happened with like, 6 in a row, so i assumed it was). i found that quickstart, mspaint, and my cd burning program actually work.

about the first thing i tried to do after i installed SE was to get online, but nothing online would work. i attempted do uninstall IE6 so i could reinstall it, but it only let me repair it or update it, so i repaired it, which did nothing. so i manually went and deleted it and tried to reinstall, but it gave me this:

IE6WZD executed an invalid instruction in

Markoman: thanks for the welcome. i wasn't able to run fine in safe mode-the same things were happening. wouldn't the SE installation program tell me if my drivers weren't compatible with the upgrade?

Go to Start > Run > and type in: msconfig
Go over to the Startup tab, and uncheck those programs.
Reinstall them over top of the old.
