New XP user...any tips?

I have decided to upgrade to Win XP....finally!!! I kept putting it off because im so used to tweaking the settings in Win 98 and ME. I just want my start up programs and system resources to be under my control. Besides using MSconfig are there any tweaking software out there or any tips?

Cool

This is a excellent site to use in addition to the tips you will get here. http://www.blkviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm
Chas
I do believe it is better to do a clean install rather than a upgrade.

Thanks for the link...this will be very useful to me. I have an upgrade CD so I don't think I can do a clean install.

Yes you can still do clean install with upgrade version as long as you have cd from previous version.

second the clean install - it works like the old versions of windows, you start the install with the upgrade and at some point it stops, asks for proof of eligibility to upgrade as there is no OS on the HD so you pull out CD - pop in the old OS CD- and swap back after it looks at the CD.

I am now up to 8 PC restarts in XP and several are my fault for sure - these 8 are in 16 months of XP operation. just the fact that I can keep count makes me very happy with XP.

If you do not like the new look of XP you can always go back to the old theme/look. It takes a little getting used to like anything new, but I prefer it to be different as a reminder of what OS I am using.

Make sure you do create the password reset disk.
