XP and anti-virus

Hi Folks,

I have a question about anti-viruses. I have an AMD computer that is running two OS (XP & 98). When I first got my computer home I noticed that when I boot into win98 that McAfee was pre-installed but when I boot into XP there is no anti-virus program of any kind. I tried downloading a few programs from the internet while in XP and I didn't have an option to check the files before installing; I decided to restart the PC and boot into win98 to scan the folder where it held files that I have downloaded from the internet. To my surprise McAfee discovered a virus and was able to clean the file. I am wondering if my system is protected? Even if, McAfee can only run while I boot into win98? Do I have to re-install Mcafee to protect my system when I go online using XP? Or is my system already protected?

Thank you,
Tango

Each operating system needs it's own AV software installed.
