Stop Runnig Disk Check, Help!

My computer, Windows XP, has started running Disk Check every time I boot up on one of my partitions.

I ran Restore and returned my computer to a time before it started doing this but it still continues.

It only does this on one of my 4 partitions. If I try and defragment this partition it says it can't do it because it is scheduled to be Disk Checked.

I have run Disk Check immediately before trying to run defrag but it still does the same thing. It never finds anything wrong,

How do I get it to quit?

Mike

Hi Mike Hawthorne

I don't know XP too much, but on Win 98.2 boxes, this is normally "fixed" by letting Scandisk (disk check) do a full scan, including surface scan on startup.

I did the full scan and it still does the same thing I never get a message that says it found anything wrong.

But it runs "Disk Scan" on Partition "E" every time I boot up.

Not being an XP person, the only thing I can think of is to try a 3rd party disk checker, like Norton's Disk Doctor or the like...

anyone else have any ideas???

The only thing that I can think of right now, is make sure you don't have disk check running in Task Scheduler or anything like that.

Well the problem is solved, but not the way I would have liked.

I installed an update from Microsoft and it crashed my computer so badly I couldn't get it to start in any mode, couldn't even run repair.

So I had to do a full install of Windows and Service pack 1.

My computer runs fine now and no longer tries to run Check Disk all the time.

Thanks for the input.
