The Next Windows
Has anyone heard anything about the next windows that is coming out. I know about Server 2003, but I mean like XP home, and XP pro, a OS like that.

I believe Reboot said he was using a beta version…. You might want to ask him what he thinks of it….
It was leaked already… you might be able to download it from the internet…. |

So, if I search the internet enough, I may be able to download a copy?

Anything is possible…
But this is as far as I’m going to explain about getting it because I’m not sure how the moderators would feel about discussing how to get it…. |

I believe the alpha is legally available. I'm not too sure about the beta.

If it wouldn’t take me 50 hours to download on my dial up if I were would download it....
But if anyone is kindly enough to mail me a copy I would benevolently accept it… hint hint… anyone |

Windows Longhorn is in ALPHA form right now...that means it's not a complete or finished operating system...ie: it's buggy as hell and won't run on a system the way WinXP does.
ALPHA testing is just that...the unfinished OS code is supplied to testers who run it on their systems to see how it performs. The tester then provides feedback to Microsoft along with their system specs so that Microsoft gets an idea of what works and what doesn't. ALPHA testing is not for folks with little computer experience or knowledge. And you'll have to "pay" to test the Longhorn BETA...it won't be free. You'll know when Longhorn is about ready to be released in it's finished form when you start reading that it's gone "Gold" in the tech press. "Longhorn" is the code name for the new OS, it'll be called something else when released. MS Windows "Longhorn" FAQ Cricket

The first Alpha leaked was 3863, the latest is Alpha 4008.
It has not gone to Beta testing yet. Basically, it's XP, with one huge difference (no, not the "sidebar" crap ).It is the first true 64 bit OS from Microsoft, and to fully take advantage of it, you need a Xeon or other true 64 bit CPU. |
