I am new to this forum and I have a question. I have been a Win 98 user and I inherited my youngest son's computer (he was killed in a helicopter crash). He has XP Professional. I need to reinstall XP and I cannot find his product key. I have the legitimate CD but no key number. To complicate it, my oldest son reinstalled XP on this computer using HIS CD and now he is deployed taking his CD with him. How can I get the product key for my CD?
Thanks in advance.

I am sorry about your son...but it could just be cheaper to go to New Egg, and just buy an OEM copy of XP, that way you always have it.... I doubt there is anyway you can get it, because the CD's don't have that much info. Or you can search for "CD-Keys" because sometime today I asked how you get extra keys. And someone gave me the link where you can purchase a new CD-Key for a reduced price....

Thank you for your reply and your expression of sympathy. My consolation is that he died doing exactly what he wanted to do - fly Apache helicopters. From what I can learn, buying a new copy will be the easiest. I was hoping there was an easier (cheaper) way.

Just a thought, but what harm would it do to call Microsoft and explain the situation, it could be possible that Microsoft has a heart. Just my .02 cents.

That's worth a try, although my previous experiences with MS phone help has less than been optimal. Thanks for the suggestion.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my younger brother here a month ago and I know what you are going though.

Re: xp product key !!

#1 it's illegal #2 the key wont work, you will be disabled. #3 it's a violation of the forum rules to discuss piracy.

I`m sorry to hear about your son. You can download aida32 hear http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php.
It will show you the product key under operating system plus about anything else you want to know about your system. And it can all be printes out for future reference. |
