Internet Connection Icon on Task Bar?

Hi All

Ive just installed windows XP and all is ok but when it comes to connecting to the internet with a Dial Up, on my old versions of windows, a connection icon appears, on XP, this icon doesnt appear.

Is there any way of getting this icon back?

As I said I am new to XP and Im just getting used to the new settings so therefore I dont know where Im looking for this setting just yet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Karl

Tools-Internet Options-Connections-Settings-Properties.
In "General" there is a box to check at the bottom that says "Show Icon in notification area when connected".

In Win 2K if you right click on the desktop icon My Network Places and then right click on the connection and go to properties you will see a box to show the icon on the taskbar. In windows 98 if you go to Dial Up Networking and click the connections tab at the top and go to settings you will see a check box to show the icon.
In windows XP if you go to Netwrok Connections and right click the connection and go to properties, on the General Tab is the check box.

Hope this helps.

Glad to see everybody got the problem squared away.
I got to the Connections box from IE Explorer Tools. You can also right-clik your IE icon and select Internet Properties and accomplish the same task.

I have XP pro on a machine at work. I also have a virtual app I can access and they both have the General tab. I am going to START>CONTROL PANEL>SWITCH TO CLASSIC VIEW>NETWORK CONNECTIONS>RIGHT CLICK ON THE CONNECTION>PROPERTIES and there is a general tab with the check box at the bottom. It shows up in both the Broadband connection and the dialup connection.

Check out the attachment. It says show icon in notification area.

Mine only has those options on the LAN Settings and not the Shared Internet Settings. I have enabled these and they arent the ones though. It may be something to do with my ISP software. When I connect to the net, I have the ISP's own logo on the task bar saying im connected (you can right click this to disconnect). The only reason I thought I would be able to get have the other icon as well is due to the fact that it used to work on ME, 98 and 95! Thanks for any advice

Im guessing my settings are correct as shared internet?

Are you doing connection sharing? I saw the shared internet thing. Who is your ISP? Are you sure you have to use their software to connect?

My isp is Blueyonder (UK). Where normal dialup connections only have one number, this has a second number which can be used as a backup if the other is down or busy.

When i get home form work, Ill send you an Image of what I can see when I go into the properties menu.

Sorry I cant be much more help, I havent had to do this kind of thing before as all my other Windows have automatically shown on the taskbar.

Im guessing that the view which Im using is not a problem? Im using the classic view but I cant see that making a difference.

Ill be home in about two hours so Ill do a screen dump and then put it on here for you to all see what I mean.

Thanks for your help and for your patience. Karl

I have attached my properties window...

I noticed that if I set up a new connection, this allows me to use the icon. Im assuming that it is something to do with the blueyonder connection manager and there is not much I can do about it.

Ill send another reply in a minute with the icon which I am displayed with, is there any way of changing this icon back to the 2 computer screens?

Thanks

Its a 9000 Pro, Ive had a few "Discussions" about the quality of it over the past few weeks.

As far as I can see, now Im using XP, the card is great for me. Ive got the 128mb version and I have no complaints about it with XP, it didnt seem to like ME, well something on ME didnt like it!!!!

No complaints now though. HTH.

My girlfriend likes ME, runs with no problems on her computer and her computer is normally so troublesome. ME seemed to be the only thing which sorted it out.

I had ME and I found it fine as well, it was only the grapics card that didnt like it!

I guess it depends on experience with it!
