converting from FAT32 to the NT file system
Hello all, here is one for ya. I recently upgraded from windows ME to XP. I have tried to convert my file system from FAT32 to NT but am having some trouble. The XP instructions booklet says to enter the command prompt program, enter ( convert C: /fs:ntfs) then when you get the enter the volume label for drive C: I enter (C
. The response is: an incorrect volume label was entered for drive C:. Does anyone have some information as to why XP won't let me convert to the NT file system? Also, isn't the volume label the same as the drive letter? Any help on this would be very much appreciated......

C is the drive letter, not the volume label unless you named it such. When I look at mine in my computer, it says MAIN (C
because I named it MAIN. If you have not named it anything, then leave that section blank.

Thanks for the info HAL, in the original post, I don't know how that smily face got in there. But as you said, volume label is what ever you named it. I got it figured out and all is converted to NTFS. Thanks a bunch......
