out of memory error
I try to run a program, and it says 'Out of Memory' in the standard Windows Error Pop-up... it doesn't give me a Run-Time Error number or anything...
Is there anything I can do? .. what does this message mean? |

It means you've filled up all of your system resources (RAM). All you can do is either close programs running in the background or reboot. I would reboot. Once you start getting that message in a session, it keeps reappearing.
Once you reboot, then you should look into disabling some of the programs the load at startup that you don't need (which run in the background and use up resources).

force_flow2002: System Resources and RAM are two completely different things. System Resources FAQ
Fuze: What OS are you using? What are you doing when the message pops up? Is it in just one certain program or anytime? Do you have a lot of programs active when this happens? When did this start to happen? Do you remember the last thing you did before this happened? Do you have a lot of background programs running on your system? Have you scanned for viruses, spyware, malware and trojans? What are your system specs? Cricket

So sytem resources are made up of User Resources and GDI Resources. The user resources are all of the input devices and the GDI resources are the resources that are responsible for what appears on the screen. Is this correct?
I still don't understand why it has nothing to do with RAM.

Yeah, I closed all my background programs. I don't think RAM is a problem .I have 384 megs of PC2100 DDR. Also, it's only with a couple specific programs. I have scanned for viruses as well - nothing. I just noticed it when I tried to the run the program. It hasn't been there before.

Knowing which programs you are trying to run would help.
You can get this error with Word if normal.dot is corrupt. If it is Word then delete the above file and Windows will create a new one. There is also something similar with an Excel template but I'm not sure what this is called. |
