How much space to allocate for XP Pro in it's own partition?

If I want to have my operating system (XP Pro on 80g HD) in it's own partition (I have partition magic 8), how much space should I allocate for it (to allow for future updates, etc.))?

Thanks

XP will run in about 3 gig, however, depending on how much RAM is in the system, I like to give it about 5 gig to include the swap file. YMMV

Cool

I would go with 8G. I started with 4G and load applications to a different drive. Still I didn't have enough to load SP1 when it was available. I used partition magic to up it to 8.

The extra space never hurts... I'm running 10Gb for my C drive.

I have an 80 GB. 60 GB for Win and apps and games, and the other 20 for backups.

Having that big a partition size (60GB) is illogical and a performance liability. Your 60GB hard drive has got a number of files that have an extremely low lifetime. You probably, depending on your usage would require something to the tune of a weekly defrag. One of the ideas of partitioning is also to ensure that files that are frequently changing (temp files, internet cache, dll cache, system page etc) are on a partition that is sufficiently small so as to defrag quickly.

I'd agree with the 6-10GB limit.
