Additional sites to current domain

Currently have domain of company.com

Looks like we'll be merging with another company located in another city. It's a small firm so they may VPN and authenticate on the current domain.

Could i add a child domain for this site if we add a DC at that location so that it's city.company.com and the corporate site will continue to be company.com?

First time setting up a multi-site.

Thanks

Yes this can be done. It does depend however how your domain has been created, the root forest, schema, etc. The initial creation of a domain can be critical to future expansion.

Also, it wouldn`t be necesarry to create a sub domain, depending on the needs of the remote company concerning your server. If you are planning to use VPN, the needs are apparently not intensive. VPN is sort of a one way street.

The creating, administering and expanding of a domain\subdomains can hardly be extrapolated upon on a message board.

I reccomend "Mastering Windows 2000 Server" by Mark Minasi. Everything from installing W2k server to creating\expanding a domain, DNS servers, WINS, lans, wans, etc are covered in a way newbies and experienced administrators can appreciate.
