Cool 256 colors missing !!!

I recently purchased a 17" Philips 107MB monitor. When I installed the monitor with my Packard Bell (Synera, 133MHz), I was able to get 256 colors. When I installed the monitor with my 350MHz Gateway, I can only get 16 colors - and the 256 colors is not even an option. On the Packard Bell, the driver that gives me 256 colors is: S3 Trio 64V+PCI(765). I tried that monitor / driver on the Gateway - but it did not work.

What can I do to get 256 colors on my 350Mhz Gateway ???

Do I need to purchase a video card for the Gateway ???

I am running Windows 98 SE on both computers.

PLEASE HELP !!!

Thank you.

First the monitor shouldn't have anything to do with the video card driver, just about any brand monitor will work with all brands of video cards. You told us that the Packard Bell has a Trio 64V+PCI as it's video card, but didn't say if that's the same video card in the Gateway, are you moving the card into the gateway? If not find the right drivers for the card in it. Post any info on the video card or model of gateway if it's the stock card, we can help you find the right driver.

yes, the 16 colors option is the only one either because you have a low quality video card or you dont have the appropriate drivers for it. You can probably download the drivers somewhere like the video card manufacturer's website.

You need 2 things on the Gateway - the correct video driver, and the correct monitor definition - the generic "plug and play" monitor should be good enough.
