for a home computr, just get home, you wont ever use the stuff in Pro, its just got networking stuff in it, more for corporateuse, the only reason i installed Pro was for its networking

Here is a good link showing difference between the two. Stuff in Pro is for corporate networks. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p.../choosing2.asp Chas

The only reason one would really need XP Pro for a network is if you needed to log into a domain. For basic peer to peer networking, Home is fine. Also, probably not an issue for you, but if you are running a dual CPU machine, then you need Pro.

Would HyperThreading need XP Pro?
Personally, I prefer Pro, but that is just a personal preference.

From what I understand, Hyperthreading is supported with XP Home since it is physically only one CPU.

Actually 50 bucks if you buy the OEM version.
Here the OEM is: XP Home = 98 USD XP Pro = 150 USD |

also home is incompatible with some pc games. Pro is worth the 50.00 more.

I have seen that posted around the net some. I don't know of any reason why XP Pro would be more compatible with any game unless of course that game required you to log on to a domain. But I would call that work and not a game

Er, Xp and Pro are practically identical, if a game won't run on one version, it certainly won't run on the other.
