Question About Win98 SE and Disk Cleanup
Hello All you Computer Guru's out there.
Once again I've run into a brick wall. I have a Laptop that seems to have lost the Disk cleanup feature on the system tools. The icons are there but when you try to run the program it can not find the tool. Now the Icons that are displayed are not the regular icons either they look like a DOS window of some sort. BTW I have no idea how this system tool managed to get removed. As far as I can tell there has been no sign of a virus that might have effected this. Now down to my question. What I'm wondering is: Is there a way to restore or reinstall this system tool without reformating the laptop? I tried uninstalling the system tools by using the Windows setup under the Add/Remove Programs feature but that didn't seem to affect the Disk Cleanup part. |

Make a new shortcut in the menu, and point it to: %SystemRoot%\System32\cleanmgr.exe
It may be slighty different in 98, but "cleanmgr.exe" is the file you want. |

Very odd. Three files seem to be removed from that folder. I'm missing Cleanmgr.exe from C:\windows, Tuneup.exe from C:\windows and CMPAGENT.exe from c:\program files\plus!
Do you know if these can be copied from another computer and run as normal? Or would these have to be reinstalled with a reinstallation of Win98? |

Go to Start > Run > and type in SFC
Choose to extract one file. Extract Cleanmgr.exe to the c:\windows folder. Repeat the process for any other missing ones. |
