Right now that's happening to my pc in the den. It's xp home version. I haven't went in the den today to fix it but I think you have to click on the desktop properties/screen saver/power/advanced/and where it reads "when I press the power button on my computer." select - shut down -

Windows may also be hitting a Stop Error on Shutdown. When XP encounters a Stop Error, it reboots instead of giving the old Blue Screen of Death. This is unhelpful, as the BSOD may give an indication as to what is causing the Stop Error.
Try disabling Automatic Reboot and see if you are getting a BSOD. To do this Start > Control Panel > Settings > System (in the Classic-style Start menu, Control Panel is under Settings). Click Advanced > System And Recovery > Settings. In the System Failure section, clear the Automatically Restart check box, then click OK. Now instead of rebooting, you will get get a BSOD which will give you a message which should help to identify the problem. HTH |
