locking out outlook express options

Hello there,

What is the best way of locking out the options in Outlook Express. I have got all the security settings tweaked just right but I don't want anyone to be able to adjust them. I could also use some way of doing this for other system settings.

I need something that will work under 9x and 2k/XP. Would poledit do this and also is it available for XP.

Thanks in advance,

Matt.

there is only one OE restriction which I can think of. (taken from Winguides.com)
------------
This setting disables the ability for users to create or modify any mail, news or directory accounts in Outlook Express.

Open your registry and find the key below.

Create new DWORD value called "No Modify Accts" and set it to "1" to enable the restriction or "0" to allow users to modify accounts.

Restart Outlook Express for the change to take effect.

(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
No Modify Accts REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Settings:
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Outlook Express]
Name: No Modify Accts
Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value: (0 = default, 1 = enable restriction)

Cheers,

Would a separate utility be the way to go then? Returning to poledit that I mentioned before - would this do the trick under win98 and also is there an XP variant?

Thanks

I am not aware of a seperate 3rd party tool to accomplish this. however, other experts may suggest you anything (if exists)

XP does not have Poledit. It has GPEDIT.MSC,but it does not have options for OE, only IE is available.

Alternately, you may set the permissions for this key to readonly. This is one area wehre OE security settings are stored.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Thanks for all the feedback Ramesh,

If I set that registry key to read only would that lock out the ability to alter any of the security settings in OE?

Also how would I then lock out the registry so that someone could not change it back?
