Question No sound on new build???

A friend of mine just built a new computer, and he can not seem to get his sound card to work. Here is his specs:

Asus P4b533-v I845g Socket478 Lan Vga Audio Atx 533fsb 6pci
Boxed Pentium 4 2.4ghz-512k 533fsb
Enlight En72500az 300watt Ps W/ Usb In Front Atx
Caviar SE 80GB, 7200RPM, Internal EIDE Hard Drive
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy with 1394
ASUS AGP-V9280 TD Ti4200-8X 128MB DDR

He is using Windows XP. I am not familiar with XP and wondered if anyone can give me an idea where to start looking for the problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

A good place to start would be to first disable the onboard audio from the BIOS.
Also check wither the Audigy sound card was recognized by Windows (check the device manager).

I told him to check to make sure the on-board sound was turned off. Also I thought it could be an IRQ conflict, but I read in another thread, that XP doesn't have tose problems like Win98. Is that correct? Or shoul I still chech into the IRQ thing?

Thanks for the inout.

I don't have any experience with that motherboard, but you probably have to disable the on-board sound through BIOS in Integrated Peripherals. Most newer motherboards don't have too many on-board jumpers nowadays.

Thanks Cricket,

That is what I thought, but I am not familiar with that board either. I am Trying to help a friend in another city, so I can't see what actually is in the bios. I tried talking through it with him on the phone, but his bios doesn't have intergrted peripherals. So it must be under some othe title. I am just having a hard time finding it over the phone.

I was hoping someone would have had experience with this board and could help me.
