Hello Proxy,

You should only download Service Packs if you are experiencing problems with the operating system, and if the Service Pack fixes that particular problem.

Now I would advise downloading them for the added security and bug fixes, i guess just two schools of thought.

Cool

MS determined that XP had problems at release time. Hence the reason for service pack. Don't be suprised if SP2 comes along very soon. I loaded SP1 and critical updates plus most recommended updates and will load any future SP's.

I have Service Pack 1 and it is really worth the download.

For me personally, SP1 (since it includes the compatibility updates that fixes problems with some games) fixed problems with 2 games. One game (Drakan) didn't run properly in XP, now it works like in the old days with Win9x, and Counter Strike. Sometimes Windows froze when you exit CS not via console exit command and since SP1 no problems.

If you have USB 2.0 then SP1 is good for you as it adds native USB 2.0 support to WinXP. I upgraded a friend's WinXP to XPSP1 and USB 2.0 works flawless.

Haven't encountered any problems with SP1. I already made a Windows XP CD with integrated SP1, so you don't need to install SP1 afterwards.

Here is a small reason to upgrade to sp1: When using an ORiNOCO USB to wireless 802.11b adapter, and using windows xp home or pro, the computer will sporadically drop it's wireless connection. Strange but true, I work as a sys-admin at a wireless ISP and we nearly lost our minds trying to figure out why several clients kept doing this.

I have SP1 and I've had no problems but it's not trouble free for everyone.

You need the new patch from M$.
That's something it addresses.

The patch is not the same as SP1.
It corrects problems some comps have had with SP1.
If you didn't have the problems you didn't need the patch.
