MCI vs Windows XP and 2000
I use the MCI(Media Control Interface) to control CD audio devices. I can hear music when using windows XP, but can't hear anything on 98 or 2000. I found that the problem is the "audio line" of the CD-ROM must be connected to the MotherBoard. Could you tell me why? Thank you!!

Im not totally sure what your problem is but if it is what i think it is then the reason for the cable is because playing a cd means using analog sound, using say winamp means the cd will play in analog and you need the ccable, if you use windows media player in winXP then the cd is played digitally using software so the cable isnt needed, maybe win98 and 2000 dont use the digital software playing?
