Hi and welcome to the PC Mech forums!

Does it give you an error message?

You may need to do a repair reinstall of XP because the new board has different IDE controllers than the old one.

A repair reinstall will NOT delete data, only a reformat will destroy your data.

If you do not have the XP disk you are out of luck.

Most likely not. It will ask for the 25 digit key. Ok, you can just type it in. But once it's running again it will ask you to activate. And you won't be able to do it since that Windows has been already activated.

Didn't reboot have a method where you deleted all the info in Device Manager and then you had Windows redetect everything?
I think it was an adaptation of the Enum trick to XP.

Restart.
