Windows almost loads and then restarts

Ok my computer runs perfectly fine normally but when I add another 256mb ram to my current 256 ram something wierd happens. Windows completely loads, desktop, icons, system tray, and everything. But the second everything gets loaded windows restarts on its own. It works fine now that I took the ram out. I have a Intel 815E motherboard and it recognizes that I have 512, I dont know whats goin on.
My current 256 of ram is samsung and the one Im trying to put in is Infeon technologies

What version of Windows are you using?

Sometimes, different brands of RAM don't get along in the same computer.

Are both sticks the same or are they different (single sided, double sided)?

Have you tried tweaking the vcache settings? Out of Memory Error Messages with Large Amounts of RAM Installed. This may or may not have anything to do with your problem.

I agree with Cricket, and have read similar posts with similar problems. Sometimes motherboards work best with memory sticks that are exactly the same.
