NTLDR Missing!
Hi guys, i have a lovely problem.
Right i'll start by giving you my spec. 1.8 p4 512 ddr ram 120gb harddrive 40 gb harddrive 40 gb hard drive abit bd7 motherboard winxp pro i had just finished using Partition Magic 7 to remove a partition and alocate my os drive more space, the computer had to be restarted to allow partition magic to do it out of windows, every thing seemed fine, all procedures complete successfully according to partition magic. it then restarted. Now i get a mesage after the memory count and drive recognition "NTLDR is missing" "press Ctrl + ALt+ DEL to restart"! Now i've tried pretty much everything i can think of. i went into bios and set the cd as the first boot, and placed windows xp cd in, it started loading the startup files, then a message "starting windows" appeared but followed by a lovely blue screen of death with an error message "\system root\system32\ntdll.dll. missing" So i used a windows 98 disk to allow me to use dos, i then searched for a repair.exe on the windows cd, but their ain't one. lol. I also tried making my other hard drives the master so i could install windows on it so that i could backup the initial windows files etc. but i couldn't cause the same error message appeared. i decided to remove all drive apart from the os drive, but that didn't help. It seems it has nothing to do with the drive or what on it, but more to do with the bios. I've also tried copying the ntldr and ntdetect.exe to the c drive but the c: can't be read my other drives can. i'm just haven't got a clue. Help me please........ Ryan |

Real long shot but what the heck:
Try to get a set of Win2k boot disks (four) and boot off them. Win98 startup disk don't seem to cut in on an NT based machine. "I've also tried copying the ntldr and ntdetect.exe" That "should" be ntldr & ntdetect.com. You'll also probably need a boot.ini file. |

Problem Sorted
I spent 6 or more reading through solutions to this problem, but to no avail. I decided to place the harddrive into another computer and format it, i then placed it back into mine and reinstalled windows, works fine now!
Cheers for the reply though, i did try that but it didn't work! Thnx Ryan |
