win200 and games prob

i recently switched to win2000 pro
(english) . the pc doesnt have an internet connection, so it's hardly upgraded.
(i believe service pack 3 was installed on it, not sure, a friend of me worked at it, got to ask him)
I tried f1 2002 on it(wanted to see the framerate it gives), but when i try to start the game, it drops back to windows after double clicking, sometimes with a few seconds black screen.
Do i need any upgrades on this windows ? (it is on a home lan but not on the internet). or is this another problem?

Ive seen this problem with xp pro to i believe, but i really dont know to much about the 'finetuning' of 2000 and xp,
always used win98se/mandrake.

if it might help, pc's specs are
abit nf7s, athlon2200, 265 mb 333 (2700), aopen gf4ti4200 128mb,
maxtor 60gb ata133 7200rpm.
