XP doomed with Blue screen--AHHHHgrh
ok here goes nothing. I have a box that the last thing done on it was an update from M/S. I believe a service pack. That may or may not have anything to do with it.
When you boot up,if it will go to the desk top for about a min or two, the to a blue screen that has this message: A problem has been detected and windows will shut down to prevent any damage. If this is the first time you have seen this stopp error message follow these steps: Check for adaquit disk space disable drivers if any are identified check hardware vendor for bios updates disable bios memory options such as caching and shadowing If you need to go to safe mode....hit F8... STOP: 0x0000007e (0xc0000005,0fx691f2d,0xf893d868,0xf893d568) HSF_SAMP.sys address F6961F2d base@f6961000 data stamp 36167f66 It has disk space no drivers are being identified not sure about BIOS update, but have never "had" to update a BIOS. couldnt find any shadowinf in the BIOS. The HSF_SAMP part of the message changes from start to start. Sometimes its not even there. ANY HELP will be greatfully appreciated. Brian |

I just noticed something, when the HSF_SAMP.sys message is there, it also says this:
Begining dump of physical memory Dumping physical mem to disk: (count down to 100) |

What are the system specs?
What brand RAM are you using? Was the computer working well prior to the update? Have you tried to restore the system prior to the problem? Cricket

My first thought was memory, but it does the POST and I can se the memory, so I am guessing that its ok. Its two sticks of Kingston DDR256.
Its an ASUS MB A7V266 Athlon XP it was running fine untill the update. It all started at that point. I aways go back to the last thing done. I am stuck on this so any ideas are appreciated |

STOP: 0x0000007e (0xc0000005,0fx691f2d,0xf893d868,0xf893d568)
======== -The "fourth parameter" underlined: 0xf893d568 -Look on the left column of the bsod and see if their is a "device driver or system file with the hex value of:0xf89nnnnnn". NOTE: ==== -If the beginning of the bsod had a message stating "IRQ NOT LESS THAN OR EQUAL", it can be a device driver issue or even maybe the service pack? |

Thanks, I didnt see ur post untill now, I am about to check. bailey, That kinda "is" the problem (as far as sys restore). It will not let me do a sys restore in safe mode. I am begining to believe that maybe it is not possible? (due to drivers not loaded) to do a sys restore while in safe mode? I cant seem to find the answer to that question at m/s or in any help files so i will post it. |

davehu,
I just dbl cked the death sceen, and there is no 0xf89nnnnnn. But, and boy I do not wish to make this more confusing, It was in the begining of this journey, doing a "physical memory dump" where it would do a count down (this was at the end of the message). I was getting a bad boot.ini file message at that time. Since, I have redid the MBR and fixed the boot.ini so that went away. I also uninstalled all the service packs. Now it no longer does the dump, or shows this error message any more; HSF_SAMP.sys address F6961F2d base@f6961000 data stamp 36167f66. So I guess that is progress. The reason I tell you all this is because that num. may have been coming up then. thanks again for your time |
