You can use Chinese Star XP to solve all your problem.
Initially,I think the encoding programme installed can view all chinese words. But it doesn't work as i think. This is the weakness of Windows XP multilanguage support. It really disappoint me. Chinese Star XP will be a bit unstable in Windows XP. You can try. I am from Kuala Lumpur. Where are you from? |

I also want to know why?
Is your friend Windows XP a English version or Chinese version?
I think Windows XP is powerful, it won't have such problem. May be the setting problem? If you find the solution, please inform me? pmcwong@pd.jaring.my I am from Kenanga, city centre. |

I solve my problem already.
You go to Control Panel, Regional and Language Option, Language. You have to make sure the East Asian installed. If it is installed, you go to Advanced. Language for non-unicode program, select chinese PRC. That is ok. |

dotcomguy's reply is right. In fact, Windows XP is using unicode & so it could handle different language like Chinese, Korean etc. Other MS products like Office XP etc are the same.

The Chinese GB and Big5 are not combined.
We have to switch between GB and Big5 inconviniently. |
