right-click menu

Hello

when you right click on a file in Explorer... how to you remove all those choices if you dont want them? (most common are Add to Zip, Play in Winamp, Send to Spyware Bot, etc...)

Thanks!

If you're talking about the Send To menu:

In Windows Explorer, click on the drive where Windows is installed (usually the C:\ drive).

Navigate to the Documents and Settings folder and open it.

Double-click on the folder of a specific user. The Send To folder is hidden by default, so you have to go to Tools menu at the top and select Folder Options. Click on the View tab and under Hidden Files and Folders, choose Show Hidden Files and Folders.

You should now see the Send To folder. Double-click on it, you can delete any that you don't want in there, or add one by dragging a shortcut into the folder.

Hi Redo,

close but not exactly. The menu that SEND TO is in, is the one I'm talking about. If you look above SEND TO, you'll probably see Winzip or any other app that was installed in your computer's options. Mine at work currently has WINZIP and CUTEFTP options (shortcuts i guess). Thanks

I can find how to add to the context menu, but not how to remove. Maybe someone will come along with a tweak for this, but I'm not sure it can be done.

If you are talking about the "new" items, I believe you would need to edit the registry to remove them.

I couldn't tell you how to do it with 2000/XP, though.

Do a "find" for "sendto".(no space between send and to) In Win 2000 and XP you'll find several sendto folders. You want the folder with the user name you are logged in on ,for example:C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\trudy. After finding the right send to folder just right click on the ones you don't want and delete them out. Hint: You can add other destinations easily. Right click an empty spot on the folder, select new and then shortcut from the context menu. Use the Browse button to locate the destination you want. I browsed network neighborhood and can right click on anything and send it to "My Documents" on either computer. Don't leave the new shortcuts name as my documents, type "Husbands My Documents" or whatever to distinguish it from your own MY Documents on your send to menu.

Look in the options for the programs whose entries are listed.

e.g I use PowerArchiver and this created about 8 entries in the right click menu (e.g. Compress to ZIP, Compress to ZIP + Options, Compress & Email etc). When I go to the options for PowerArchiver there is a tab called "Shell Extensions". From here I can turn on/off the options I want.

You need to look for something similar in the programs you use. As I don't use any of the programs you listed I can't be more specific but hopefully you will have got the idea.

That's not the problem, he wants to change the whole menu, not the send to section.

Man, I type too slow! Just ignore!

It can be done.
Open regedit, and do a search for the exact words you want to get rid of. Can usually be found.

Yep! Its in the registry, but in no logical places, they seem to be randomly scattered... and since I dont know much about the registry I cant find any patterns but it works! Thanks everyone.

Be sure to back it up before you go ahead and edit entries.

I know you can do it with Winzip and CuteFTP.

Winzip: go to Options > Configuration > Explorer Enhancements. Uncheck: Enable Explorer enhancements

CuteFTP: go to Edit > Settings > Advanced. Uncheck: Enable right-click shell intergration

hope that helps.
