Trouble with sound after re-install
Hi, I cannot figure out how to solve this problem. I can't play any sound because I get a warning box stating: "Another audio player is using those resources, close the other program and try again". the problem is there is no other audio program playing in the background. or none that I can find. How can I determine if there is something going on in the background? I use an internet answering machine called Pagoo, which gives me audio messages of those who called while I'm online. So, I can't get any of those messages. Has this happened to anyone before? I have re-installed 98SE before with out this problem popping up. Please oh please, someone try and help, I is goin crazy!

What progs do you have loaded in the system tray? Winamp, realone/real player, or anything like that loaded?

To back up force flow's suggestion, you can also press ctrl-alt-del )only Once!) to bring up your Task List. If you have already stopped the programs running in the System tray, the task list might show some that don't display icons there. Of course, leave explorer, systray, and your antivirus programs running. But check for anything that looks like it might be using your audio device.
Another thing to try would be to enter your Pagoo setup/configuration/preference screens [I'm not familiar with Pagoo, but it must configure itself somewhere], and if it gives you a choice, select the Wave Device for Voice Modem to play the Pagoo pages (should be decent enough sound for a message) . . . that should leave your regular sound card playback devices free for music or videos. . . . and, as you probably can tell, I'm guessing on this one. . . . Gary [one other thing you can try: go into Control Panel/Multimedia/Audio - Playback - and remove the checkmark from the box "Use only preferred devices" - - - and if nothing to this point has helped, you can also try selecting "use any available device" in the playback drop-down menu] |
