Question Building all new system, but installing old hard drive, Some Questions...

So I have bought a new P4 2.53, MSI 845pe max2 mobo, and a western digital 80gig hard drive, plus all the other stuff. I'm building my first new computer. Now my old computer is something my girl friend's dad gave me. He built it I think, anyways it's a P2 200MHz, running Win98 2nd ed.
Now i've just went thru a class on building my own computer, but this was never answered. Can I simply take my hard drive from my old computer, and put it on my brand new setup and have the whole thing start up just like did on the old one?? I've read tutorials on transfering information from an old hard drive to a new one, but my question still stands unanswered... any help would be greatly appriciated... Also besides help on this, some good links to go about the process of doing the type of system build im making... Thanks in advance...

(and I can be of some good assistence with digital audio related questions, not hardware orriented, but general)

First, welcome to PCMech!
Second, read this: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9254
It should answer just about every question you have about moving a hard drive.
