How do I turn Active Desktop off in Windows XP?

im not sure if mine is "turned off" but i know my ATi drivers control the desktop now, is that what you mean??

No, I'm wondering if theres an actual setting somewhere for turning active desktop on and off.

Hmm, i think that would involve tampering with the explorer.exe app possibly. why if i may ask are you fed up with active desktop? is it giving you problems? if so, try an upgrade like sp1a.

Right click your desktop, select the desktop tab, select the advanced button.

I assume that you mean the desktop tab under properties? If so then there is no advanced button.
