FOLLOW UP PROBLEMS with installing my old hard drive on a new system. HELP ME!!

It's such a miracle to be even on the internet!! Anyways here is my problem now... I red the thread that someone posted in reply to me(thank you for that by the way) and I followed it. and everything seem'd to be going great, but then all the sudden it kept asking for a windows 98 se cd, now the problem is I don't have one, the original computer was given to me, and I never had the disk for it. So now it keeps trying to search for all these things and can't find it. I remember in the post about doing all this correctly somone said simply direct it to the windows/options/cabs folder, I did that and still it did not work. my biggest problem currently is my monitor, it won;t recognize any adapter or im not even sure what it's not recognizing, but I only have 16 colors 640x(can't remember) and i can't seem to fix this plus there is alot of other stuff in my hardwae profile that windows has no clue about what do with... am I screwed here without a windows 98 se cd?? or is there some ways aroudn it?? Website for getting drivers, or something, I thought everything was all good! =0(

It sounds as if you need to reinstall the video card drivers and maybe the monitor .inf file.

Find out what video card your system uses and go to the manufacturer's website and download the drivers.

If you don't know what video card your system has, open up the case and take a look at it. You might be able to get that information by using Belarc Advisor or Aida32.

Go to the monitor manufacturer's website and download the .inf file.

It might make sense to get your own legal copy of the MS Win98SE CD for future reinstalls.

Like Cricket said, you should be able to download your drivers from the websites but not having the original CD will limit you at some point.

If you decide to buy the CD, may as well get XP Home.

You can get XP home for about $70 on ebay. I got XP Pro for $60. Ebay is great, I love it. I agree with KHT that is your going to get a new cd might as well upgrade. Xp is now one of the stablest OS's by MS and i think it would be worth the investment.
