Window XP - Disc cleanup

As of today 4/7/03 I can't seem to get this on board utility to do it's thing.
I have been using it 3-4 times a month over the last seven months or so with no problem and all of a sudden the program will start, 3 bars come up and then it just sits there. Should I just let it run, like overnite, and see what happens or ??

Is there another way to run the program, or any thoughts on how I may get this puppy working?

thanks folks

There is a fix for it. It also applies to Win2000. It has to do with disabling the checking for compress old files. I think I found it by Googling for "Disk Cleanup Hangs". I'll look to see if I saved it and I'll post back if I can find it.

Delete the following key from the registry;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\VolumeCaches\Compress old files

Maybe in safe mode U could give it a go if nothing else works.
I've noticed that WinXP doesn't have that option for compress old files like W2000 has, what exactly is that??

Thanks for the brain fix. I followed the instructions, and it worked great.
