Modem failed after installation of SP1??

I'd heard that Windows XP's SP1 may affect modem to work but never play real attention to it until recently I upgrade my PC & run Windows XP.

I've now Windows ME & XP installed on my PC & is switching between through Partition Magic 7.0.

Everthing works fine until SP1 was installed. I could no longer connect to the internet throught my AMR V.9.0 modem. The DUN kept on reporting "no dail tone" and refused to take any further action to connect. Surprisingly the Control Panel suggested that my modem had no problem (i.e., no hardware conflict) & it passed test everytime.

As I have Windows ME on my PC, I switched back to Windows ME & it was very odd to see that my modem actually worked again.

Other than a FULL re-installation of Window XP, how can I get it around??

My PC is an AMD Duron 950Mhz, 512Mb PC2100 DDR Ram, 60G HDD, built in SIS graphic with 64Mb shared memory, AMR 56K V.9.0 Modem, CDRW & DVD Rom. I principlally run Windows XP Pro.

Dear ktKendall, I'd in fact even removed & reinserted my modem physically without any luck. I'd also tried to disable the AMR slot onboard in the BIOS & re-enable it again. Unfortunately, still can't fix the problem.

Dear reboot, I'll try it.

Thanks a lot.

Policies at work stop me accessing Reboot's link so apologies if I'm repeating something.

Look for an option to dial immediately i.e. without waiting for a dial tone (no modem here so can't be more specific). I have seen this happen when you are using the BT services that kick in as soon as you pick your phone up.

I just meant remove it in software reboot and reinstall. I'l bet it has something to do with the fact that it's and AMR, but Ive never used one of those so I have no practical experience, I just know that I've read that they are not real good...

You try to search new driver of Windows XP for your AMR modem.
Windows XP is very sensitive, and it is not like Windows 98.
Service pack may affect your modem's driver comparative.
Once your driver suits Windows XP, it will work stably.
