My roommate downloaded some calendar junk from Microsoft (Word) to help with her schedule. Now, at startup, I get two different errors:
1) ERROR RUNDLL powrprof.dll 2) SETUPAPl.DLL file is linked to missing export CFGMGR32.DLL:CM_Get_Log_Conf_Priority. I would prefer not to wipe the hard drive. She dumped the offending calendar download into recycle and deleted it, but the damage has been done. What is the best, cleanest, least destructive way to repair this system? I'm definitely a novice in this area. The computer: Pentium III 450. The software: Windows 98SE. |

It actually just sounds like you have some things in the startup program that can no longer be started. Do you know what I mean by the startup program?? Go to Programs>Startup and see what is there...

Have you removed the program?
start\settings\control panel\add remove programs. Remove the calendar program. If you can`t find it it will have to be removed manually, more complicated but it can be done safely. |

Like I said,
My roommate supposedly removed it...she did not use add/remove programs. I guess some part of the computer thinks it is still there. So, KHT, what's the more complicated manual remove trick? Incidently, I think I do know what the Startup programs are, but I am not sure. I'll give a look-see. Keep me posted. It's just like microsoft to trash one's system.

Re install the software and then use Control Panel _ Add /Remove to sort it out.

Don't blame MS for this one, it's obviously user error.
Reinstall and uninstall properly as kissfan has suggested. |

My roomie dumped it into recycle bin & emptied said bin.
Didja read my post? When I checked add/remove programs, the one suspect I found was: Microsoft Word 97 Time Mgmt Wizard Pack (remove only). I tried to uninstall & was given another error. I'm sorry, I am quite testy about this, as I still haven't been able to get my roommate to show me exactly what she did. It's college mid-term season, and between her studying and her 2 jobs, we haven't had time to trace. Other programs are malfunctioning. Each time I try CivIII, my screen freezes black. So enlighten me, brothers & sisters! |

What I would try as kissfan said is re download it install then go through add remove programs to uninstall if thats not a option a outside idea which i would have one of these other guys confirm is to disable it in startup which is easy enough to do.....

I am assuming then that you don't have the original installation disks to hand.
One thing that you can do is to use the system information tool, to stop the errant program from running at start-up. You could also try and use an Un-installer prog to remove whats left behind. |

Try these things first and then let us know the results.
-Regardless she deleted the program go to start settings control panel, then go to Add and Remove Programs. Being that your roomate did not remove it properly it might still be on the add and remove list. If it is do a remove and that might fix it. -If that does not work, right mouse click on the start button and choose explorer, then double click on Programs and then the Startup folder and see if a shortcut for that program is in there. -If that doesn't do it. Re-download the application, reinstall the application, and then using Add and Remove programs remove it correctly. One of these should work but it looks like you tried the first two steps I suggested then you should definetly go step three. |

if ulitimately the program won't reinstall itself for some reason (i doubt that would happen, but i've seen stranger things), you can go start-run and type msconfig, click ont he startup tab, and uncheck the offending items so they won't load on startup.

if you still have a shortcut to the program somewhere, you could use a program like Uninstaller by Cybermedia to complete any unfinished business. Perhaps you could find a free download at ZDNet that also could do the job, try looking over the trial software here: http://downloads-zdnet.com.com/3120-...ler&tg=dl-2001 . Try to remember, just dumping something in the recycle bin doesn't remove every trace of the program (as you know all too well now). Also, the program "regclean" can help straighten out your registry, and might help. here's where you can get regclean: http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/shtml/regcleaner.shtml Last edited by Dan; 04-15-2003 at 11:52 AM. |

It ain't user error.
Microsoft does stink. By the way, thanks for all the advice. I've tried all that's been posted, and I appreciate it. Sorry to say, there's no solution as of yet. I'll give you a rundown as soon as I can... Unfortunately, there just isn't any privacy or time to dedicate toward typing, as a 4-year-old child is, and has been, demanding my attention. Take good care, folks. |

Instead of mudslinging, I'll offer the following:
powerprof.dll has nothing to do with calendars, or downloaded software. It's part of Windows that looks after turning off the monitor or hard drives after a period of time. It's missing or corrupt, and can be replaced by running SFC. If that doesn't work, then simply disable the power profiles using msconfig/startup tab. If this is a desktop, you don't need any power saving junk anyhow. SETUPAPl.DLL file is linked to missing export CFGMGR32.DLL:CM_Get_Log_Conf_Priority seems to be a setup program gone bad, and the Configuration Manager can't find it to update the regitsry, reflecting the setup program (whatever it may be). CFGMGR32.DLL can also be restored using SFC. At least give it a try, and we'll see if I'm anywhere close to being right.

Hey.
What is SFC? Small Fries Content? Single Reflux Capacitor?
Please forgive my ignorance, all you mudslingers.

how is it not user error if the program was not uninstalled correctly?
I had a friend who just deleted any programs and their folders that he didn't want anymore. He had no idea that it wouldn't remove all traces of programs (and i'm talking 30+ programs) when I told him what he did wrong he said "my bad" because he realized he had made the mistake. If you don't know what you're doing, you can't balme someone else. It'd be like if i tried changing the sparkplugs on my car, and didn't space the gap properly. the car wouldn't run right, and would I balme ford? no, i ultimately would have made the mistake. and that's all i have to say about that. btw: hopefully next time the programs will be removed properly |

SFC is the System File Checker, which is used to restore Windows system files from the Windows CAB files on the CD or from a folder on the Hard Disk. You can access SFC from the Command Line (Start>Run>Command) by typing SFC and clicking OK.

Sorry this thread got lost over the long weekend.
Anyhow, run SFC (now that pillainp has kindly explained what it is) and choose to extract one file. Select the filename from the ones I mentioned above, and restore it to the default path.
