Does your computer have a sound card installed? If it does, was the drivers installed?

Even if the sound is built into the motherboard, you still have to install the sound drivers from the motherboard setup CD. If you've already installed the sound drivers, then follow jgis19's instructions to get the speaker icon in the taskbar.
