Messenger Service

I just got XP loaded up and running on new mobo / cpu / Hdd. I'm saturated with the volume of new and different things I've just gone through (and not finished yet) and I've got this annoying Windows Messenger popping up with messages I haven't requested and won't respond to. I did not turn this on and will not. How do I get rid of it once and for all.

I went to Start up and nothing was in there.

I'm going to KILL it when I find it.

Go to Start > Run > and type in: services.msc
Look for messenger, turn it off, and set it Disabled.
No more popup messages.

Cool

Perfect! You've saved my sanity and possibly some furnature. After a long day at work and what I've gone through to get this to where it is now, all I have left is one frazzled nerve and Messenger was getting on it! I'd have been able to research help and figure it out but I haven't eaten, and got home work.

Thanks again.
