Hi,
I just replaced the HDD on my laptop (IBM ThinkPad 390). I was running XP before the crash and want to put it back. The problem is, it won't install from the CD. I get the message that it can't be installed from DOS. I want to use the NTFS file system so I want to do a "clean install" and not to upgrade. Can someone tell me how to install Windows XP to a blank HDD? When I turn the computer on I get the message "can't find operating system" or "missing operating system". Thanks, Skinamo. |

hi,
have you changed the boot sequence yet? just go into the bios (usually a function key or delete) and change it to boot from the cdrom drive first. Then reboot and follow the prompts. I assume you have a full version of windows xp? i think its the same with the upgrade tho....just have your win98 disc handy. |

Do you have a full version of XP (either OEM or retail) or a IBM recovery CD.
If you have a full version then try solution that Teeb offered in this thread. http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...=XP+boot+disks I'm assuming you have a floppy drive. Chas
