Win xp pro or home
I am going to be building a new system and need to know which os to buy. We have a ten year old in the house and I was thinking of setting the system up so he logged on with his own pass word but was restricted to what sites he could go to. Which os should I get. The new computer will be used mainly for surfing and playing games, alltthough I am going to be going to school for my A+ cert and networking.
Thanks for any help you guys are always great. |

I would recommend Home unless you plan on building a dual CPU system or have plans to join a Domain. You will need Pro for either of those.

I agree with Confused. Home will definitely suit your needs and it is much less expensive.

I agree with the Pro for networking within a domain that would be a benefit for your classes.
BearEater, could you explain your comment on using the Pro version on another PC because I believe that is illegal.

I disagree with those who suggested Home for the reason that you posted that you are going to school for your A+ and Networking. I am confident in saying that you are will learn things in those classes and might want to try it at home, and to do so you will need the pro version. Go to www.newegg.com and purchase a full version of Pro. It's quite affordable, especially compared to what they charge for those classes
In the future you might want to mess around with domains in your house and you can not do that with the Home version. |

I recomend getting PRO as well. I used Home and only recieved the PRO features because up until August of this year my college had a license from Microsoft to let us install the extras.

Home will probably do everything you want to do just fine, But I would buy Pro anyway.

I think what BearEater meant by using xp on another computer is that you can set up xp to be controlled by other computers, it works with windows 98 (don't know if it goes back to 95). All you have to do is install the client software on the other pc mess with some settings and your ready to go, I don't if it only works with xp pro or if it will work with xp home.

Read the above link and it might help you decide which is which you want to load. I'd rather go for Pro though. |
