Hello Robo9mm,
Press DEL or either F8 and you should enter the BIOS. |

Well, the most common way to get into the BIOS is hitting the Del key just after turning the machine on. But that depends on the system though.
Can you provide the full system specs so we can help you better?

When you turn the pc on, the first screen should say something like, "press ???? to enter setup".

first off every time you have a peice of hardware that doesn't work microsoft always says to turn it on in the BIOS. Just today I was working on a computer and the printer port wasn't working. I went to see what help said and it said check it in the BIOS and make sure it's enabled. Well there was no option to enable LPT. Anyways, the moral of this story is that you need the right drivers for the modem. I would suggest taking a look at driverguide.com. There is a member login section. The user name is drivers and the password is all. You should be able to find all the info about updating drivers there.

By "win TS" are you referring to the Windows Task Scheduler? What program is it that you want to run that needs the modem?
Is this a brand-new system? Have you ever used the modem before? Do you know whether it is installed or not? Try this: 1) from Start/Settings/Control Panel/System - go to the Device Manager tab, and look to see if there is a Modem in the list of devices that displays in the white box in Device Manager. If so, right-click on it, and then left-click on "Properties" - if something seems wrong with the modem's installation, there may be an error message in the Properties page. Post it here if you see one. 2) If you don't see a Modem entry on the Devices list, it probably hasn't been installed yet (or properly installed). Some modems are built-in to the motherboard, but most are not. If it is already inside your computer case, you can try Sisoft Sandra (a system analysis program) to see if it can identify it for you - without you having to look inside the case). You can get Sisoft Sandra at http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/index.ht...dl&langx=en&a= 3) It might simply be that the program requesting the modem isn't getting a dialtone - you can try unplugging/replugging the phone line into the "Line" connector for your modem at the back of your computer. Feel free to post more questions . . . Gary [PS . . . if your modem is plugged into an "AMR/CNR" slot on the motherboard, that slot usually shows up in the Bios Setup under the "Integrated Peripherals" menu - and it does need to be set to "Enabled" to work. Simply enter Bios Setup, find that item, use the appropriate key to set the value to "Enabled", then select "Exit Saving Changes". . . The AMR/CNR slot is usually smaller than the AGP or PCI slots on the motherboard, about an inch and a-half in length] Last edited by GaryRouth; 04-19-2003 at 06:42 PM. |
