If any one can help me, I would appreciate it. I tried to reinstall some set up files from my win Xp Pro cd. Well when my pc came back up, all my info was gone(or so I thought). When I ran a search and looked for certain files, I found everything I thought was lost. What I'm wondering, is there a way for me to restore everything the way it was? In other words, I want to make all my shortcut reappear, all my stuff under start, programs, be there again and so on. Note: when I went to system restore, the earliest date is today(I guess because I reinstalled certain files.) If anyone has the answer and can help me, I definately appreciate it. Thanks!

You've managed a double install. Your original stuff is still there, and the easy way would be to edit the boot.ini to reflect where the original Windows install is.
We're going to need more details. What's the contents of the boot.ini file? Do you have both a c:\windows and a c:\winnt folders? |

I think Jim is looking for the line entries in the .ini file.

OK, the boot looks correct.
I would guess that you've created a new user account, and all your stuff is under the old one. Open Explorer, and browse to c:\Documents and settings List all the usernames in there, including what your old and new usernames are. |

Have you tried to login under both the branden, and the branden.BRANDEN-5F05MLQ? Maybe all your shortcuts and stuff are under a different user name.
